CDHB Plans for Upcoming Junior Doctors Strike

Christchurch Hospital, Christchurch Women’s Hospital and Burwood Hospital will be offering limited services during the Resident Medical Officers’ (Junior Doctors) strike from 7am, Tuesday 22 April until 7am, Thursday 24 April.

Canterbury District Health Board, which administers these hospitals, was one of New Zealand’s 21 District Health Boards issued with notice of the RMOs’ strike action by the Resident Doctors’ Association.

Most non-urgent/planned surgery, along with some outpatient appointments will be affected by the strike and some services will be cancelled. Patients affected by these changes will be contacted directly.

Christchurch Hospital’s Emergency Department will be available for emergency care but oall patients with non-urgent injuries and illnesses will be asked to seek help from their family doctor or nearest medical centre.

Christchurch Women’s and Ashburton Hospitals are the only Canterbury hospitals that will be accepting women in labour during the strike.  The birthing units at Lincoln, Burwood and Rangiora will remain open but only for post natal care.
